On 20.07.2011, fast train № 2615 composed with five passenger wagons was moving in Sofia-Varna direction.
At 05:20 PM, the assistant locomotive driver noticed flames and smoke coming out from the middle low part of the locomotive body. The train driver immediately activated the automatic braking of the train and the train stopped at kilometer 271 +150 near the pillar № 281 of the contact network. The locomotive crew activated the powder fire-fighting installation of the locomotive and started fighting the fire with the conveyable fire extinguishers available, but the fire increased and spread on the 1-st and 2-d wagons.
The fire was localized at 07:00 PM by means of four fire vehicles of the Regional Fire Safety and Protection of Population Service. Because of the fire, the electric locomotive № 44-089.1 and the first two wagons of the train were destroyed. No injuries and fatalities.
