Technical investigation of serious railway accident – Derailment of fast train No 8601 occurred during ordered transit passing along fourth track of Kaloyanovets station on 12.07.2014

At 03:17 PM on 12.07.2014 while passing transit on track No 4 through Kaloyanovets station, the fast passenger train No. 8601 from Sofia to Varna derailed at the entry switches of the station. The locomotive overturned and broke with its train composition. The first 5 wagons derailed as well. In result of the accident, the locomotive driver died and seven other persons were injured including three passengers and four staff members of the RU.

The movement of trains on the rail track no. 1 and no 2 was interrupted and major damages were inflicted on the rolling stock and railway infrastructure.

The movement on the rail track no. 1 was restored at 02:21 hrs. on 13.07.2014.

Technical investigation of a serious railway accident – collision between a diesel locomotive No 55078.0 and a motor vehicle – a car „Seat Тоlеdо“ at a secured railway level-crossing, at Obelya halt on km 5+375 between Sofia-Voluyak railway stations on 09.10.2014

At 14:05 hrs. on 09.10.2014, train No 10997 run by locomotive No 55-078 (solo) of the Bulgarian State Railways – Cargo Transport hit a road vehicle passing through the level crossing at km 5+375 in the Voluyak-Sofia inter-station section by raised up (in vertical position) LC barrier beans and deactivated road signalization. In result of the accident, one passenger traveling in the car was killed and its driver was injured. The car was smashed and minor damages were caused to the locomotive and the RI.

The movement of trains through the railway section was prohibited from 14:05 to 17:00 hrs. on line no 1 and to 17:25 hrs. on line no 2 due to implementation of investigation activities by the police and NIB.

Technical investigation of railway accident – an outbreak of fire in electric locomotive No 44117.0, which serviced fast train No 8613 between Kaloyanovets – Stara Zagora stations on 07.08.2014

At approx. 06:15 PM on 07.08.2014, while moving on its direction Sofia - Burgas, the electric locomotive No 44117.0 hauling the fast passenger train No 8613 got fire in its engine compartment before Stara Zagora station. The locomotive crew stopped the train immediately and started fighting the fire with the manual fire extinguishers available in the locomotive and in the wagons. The train master called 112 and informed on the emergency situation.

The fire was extinguished successfully at approx 07:10 PM. There were no casualties or injures in result of the accident, but damages to the locomotive only. The movement on the railway was restored at 09:26 PM.

Technical investigation of a serious railway accident – collision of passenger train No 10113 with a motor vehicle - "Scania" truck with "Fliegl" semitrailer at railway level-crossing on km 101+227 in Belovo-Septemvri interstation on 07.05.2014

At 4:35 PM on 07.05.2014 while moving between Belovo and Septemvri stations, the Passenger train No 10113 of the RU (BDZ Passengers) ran onto a road heavy truck passing the level crossing on km 101+227 secured by automatic sound and light signal system.

The truck driver and five passengers and were injured, one of which died in the hospital afterwards as a consequence of the accident. Damages were caused to the RS, the road truck and the RI.

The movement on both the rail tracks was blocked immediately. It was recovered after rehabilitation works at 10:43 PM on track No 2 and at 5:25 AM on 08.05.2014 on track No 1.

Technical investigation of railway accident – derailment of freight train No 10530 during transit passing along third track of Todor Kableshkov station on 28.03.2014

At 08:20 AM on 28.03.2014 while passing transit through Todor Kableshkov station the freight train No. 10530 derailed on rail track No. 3 before switch No. 24. Five of its altogether 24 wagons loaded with coal overturned into both sides of the railway and the train was broken between the 5-th and 6-th wagons. No casualties occurred in result of the accident, but substantial damages to the RS and the infrastructure.

Due to the infrastructure restoration works, the train movement between Stambolyiski, Todor Kableshkov and Plovdiv stations was interrupted for 28 hours and 38 minutes - from 08:20 a.m. on 28.03.2014 to 12:58 on 29.03.2014.

Technical investigation of railway accident, occurred on 01.02.2014 at 01:25 – rise of fire in diesel locomotive No 07123.3 at Gorna Oryahovitza Locomotive depot

At 01:28 hrs on 01.02.2014, the diesel locomotive No 07123.3 got fire in its first cabin while stayed with running engine before its inclusion into the timetable for train service in the Locomotive depot Gorna Oryahovitza. The Regional department “Fire safety and civil protection” was informed immediately after the initial attempt to fight the fire and it was extinguished approximately at 02:00 a.m. There was not injured staff, but damages caused to the locomotive.
