The concession is the best solution for long-term development and competitiveness of the Bulgarian airports. This was stated by Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski, during today's official opening in Sofia at the international conference "European and American partnership on aviation business and investment."

Minister Ivailo Moskovski said that construction of a modern airport infrastructure requires time and considerable financial resources. To ensure continuous and sufficient investment is chosen approach of concession of the airports in the country. Currently the airports in Varna, Burgas and Gorna Oryahovitsa were granted on concession for a period of 35 years, he added. This year concession procedures also  were opened for the other two international airports in Sofia and Plovdiv.

Minister Ivaylo Moskovski expressed confidence that the conference will help to improve the transport connectivity between America and Europe, and in particular Southeast Europe. According to him, the region has great potential for development. As competitive advantages of Bulgaria, the Minister underlined the liberalized aviation market, full implementation of European and international standards, recently built passenger terminals at airports in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and Burgas and the renewed runways of the airports in Varna and Burgas.

With regard to air traffic management, Minister Moskovski said that Bulgaria participates in the European "Single European Sky" with a functional airspace block "DANUBE FAB", which runs from the end of 2012. This initiative will significantly help to achieve a sustainable growth in air transport in the region by improving the safety and cost efficiency of air navigation services, and reduce the adverse impact of air transport on the environment, he added.
