Experts from the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, the Communications Regulation Commission and representatives of the telecommunications business started elaboration of the national position on the proposals of the European Commission to reform the electronic communications.

Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications Valery Borissov hosted the meeting to form a position on the new draft legislative package on connectivity within the EU.

The European Commission developed the concept for "Gigabit society" in which the availability of networks of high capacity enables the widespread use of products, services and applications within the Digital single market, said at the beginning of the meeting Deputy Minister Borissov. In his words is envisaged a major reform of the regulatory framework for electronic communications - a proposal (directive) for European Electronic Communications Code; Regulation on the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications, Action Plan on fifth-generation networks technology 5G and Regulation to promote Internet connectivity in local communities and public spaces (Wi-Fi for the EU).

The legislative package will be a major priority of the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU in the electronic communications sector, said Deputy Minister Valery Borissov. The proposals represent a framework to regulate relations between undertakings providing electronic communications networks and services and include measures to stimulate investment in the sector.
