The New Modern Passenger Terminal of Airport Plovdiv Was Inaugurated

The Minister of Transport Peter Mutafchiev, The Premier Minister Sergey Stanishev and the Director-Executive of Airport Plovdiv Andrea Andreev inaugurated the new airport terminal of Airport Plovdiv.

I would like to congratulate all people for the efforts. Thanks to this hard work the building of the new terminal for six months became reality. This is also a promise made and fulfilled. For one year were accomplished all other projects on the modernization of the airport, also said Minister Mutafchiev. With the putting into operation of the new terminal on August 1st, 2009 the development of the tourism in the district will became more intensive. Large positive impact on the regional economy will have the building of the cargo terminal, where a serious investor interest has already been shown, said minister Mutafchiev.

The building of the new passenger terminal was accomplished for a record-breaking time with an extraordinary control upon the quality of the implemented work. Thanks to the new investments the airport has already a new terminal responding to all modern safety and security requirements with modern architecture. The new building is high-tech facility which is able to service 1000 passengers pro hour. The existing apron has been enlarged and new public parking has been situated. Wholly reconstructed and modernized are the electro and the lighting systems.

Airport Plovdiv is announced as a reserve airport of Airport Sofia. In cases of reduced visibility and other emergency cases it accepts the traffic from Sofia Airport. In the winter season, the airport serves the everyday charter tourist flights to the Bulgarian ski-resorts in Bansko, Pamporovo and Borovets, as well as the spa-complexes in Velingrad, Hisar, Bania and Narechenski Bani.
