All transport projects under ISPA Programme will be completed by the end of 2012

All projects in the transport , financed under the ISPA instrument of the EU, will be completed by the end of the year. This transpired from a report of the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications presented during an inspection of the ISPA Monitoring Committee.

During the past year serious efforts were made to provide the necessary financial resource for completing the two biggest infrastructure projects, Danube Bridge 2 at Vidin-Calafat and Plovdiv-Svilengrad railway line. The project on the Lyulin Highway was successfully completed and it was set into operation on May 15, 2011.

Seventy-two per cent of the construction and installation activities under Danube Bridge 2 project have been completed. A total of 90.8 million euro (86 per cent of the contractual amount) have been paid. Eighty-seven per cent of the activities, related to the building of the adjacent infrastructure, have been completed and 48 million euro (77 per cent of the contractual amount) have been paid. The project is expected to be completed by the end of November 2012.

Considerable progress has been made in regards to Plovdiv-Svilengrad railway line. The Kroumovo-Purvomai and Purvomai-Dimitrovgrad lots have been finished. The amounts paid for Lot 1 and Lot 2 equal 93.6 million euro (94 per cent of the contractual amount) and 61.8 million euro (91 per cent of the contractual amount), respectively. The remaining part of the section will be financed under OP Transport as contracts for implementation have already been signed.

Тhe completion of the Lyulin Highway is an example for successful project in the transport sector. The report of the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications of the projects financed by ISPA at the end of 2011 shows there were built 20 km highway, 18 road bridges, 3 tunnels, 3 road junctions, 5 underpasses, 11 barrages, 15 fortification walls, 32 culvert, 47 km single-track, 20 km double track line, 85 km overhead, 2 traction sub-stations, 13 railway underpasses and 13 railway overpasses.
