18 km left to finish Danube bridge 2

The builders of the second Danube Bridge between Bulgaria and Romania have 18 more meters to go in order to complete the long-anticipated facility, said the Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski during the inspectation of the construction works of the bridge. The total length of the bridge will be 1791 meters.

"About 86% of the construction has been completed;  the financial contract has been executed at 96%" said minister Moskovski. According him the Bulgarian state had done everything necessary to solve its problems and guarantee the funding for the project. The Danube Bridge 2 would create jobs and boost economic growth in Bulgaria's Northwest, which is the poorest EU region.

Moskovski predicted that over 100 000 vehicles will use the Vidin-Calafat Bridge in the first year after its launch.

The bridge adjacent infrastructure had already been finished. It includes the construction of four roads and four railway overpasses along the international route E79, the construction of 7 km and the rehabilitation of 7 km of railway lines; reconstruction of substation in Vidin and electrification of rail section of the bridge. Also, the modernization of the signaling, telecommunications, security and building a new common border freight station and a new building to serve passengers in Vidin railway station.
