EU will work on the competitiveness of maritime transport

European Union will strengthen the competitiveness of maritime transport. That became clear today in Limassol during an informal ministerial meeting about  the Integrated Maritime Policy. The forum was entitled "Promoting the Integrated Maritime Policy for the European Union: From Lisbon to Limassol." The Deputy-Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Kamen Kichev took part in the event.

"Declaration of Limassol" which aims to promote the development and implementation of innovative cross-cutting policy, was adopted. The main strategic objectives are: maximizing the opportunities for implementing innovations in marine equipment manufacturing and shipbuilding in the EU, helping to achieve the objectives of the strategy "Europe 2020", the creation of new employment opportunities by increasing production and exploration of new sources of renewable energy, support the development of marine tourism in Europe and more.

The document was signed in the presence of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Demetris Christofias, President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso and the European Commissioner, Maria Damanaki.
