Representatives from Bulgarian and Romanian Governments cross finished Danube bridge 2

Prime Ministers of Bulgaria and Romania – Boyko Borisov and Victor Ponta, cross the already joined Danube Bridge 2 together and met in the middle of the bridge. The event was organized by the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications and was attended by the European Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn and ministers from the two governments.

“The final 18 m of the bridge was finished last week and now the total length of the bridge is 1971 m”, said minister Moskovski.

European Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn expressed his satisfaction that only a few weeks after his last visit here again and sees big progress.  "I was confident that by the end of this year we would be able to cross the bridge from one side to the other. Today, two months before the deadline, this is already a reality ", said Commissioner Hahn. He congratulated the two premieres for their strong commitment and contribution to the completion of this project. He expressed hope that this will be a turning point in relations between the two countries and in the future they can work on other similar joint projects.

Prime Minister of the Republic, Boyko Borissov thanked the European Commission for the support. “Three years ago this was a failed project”, the Prime Minister said. According to his words Commissioner Hahn assured that the last segment of the Bridge is on its’ place and the two countries have met their commitments. “Bulgaria and Romania have always been an example for good cooperation and should continue their good co-operation”, he added.

The Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta said both countries have agreed to establish a joint Bulgarian-Romanian company for the management of Danube Bridge 2. "Today we approved the memorandum of understanding", said Victor Ponta. He said they will intensify negotiations on the establishment of this company. The last section of the Danube Bridge 2 was built last week and the Bulgarian and Romanian banks are already connected.
