Minister Danail Papazov: Good transport connections are crucial for the increase in freight flow at ports

Bulgarian ports need better connections with other modes of transport so as to increase the freight flow, said the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, Danail Papazov, today during the opening of the international partnership meeting on ADB multiplatform Project – Adriatic-Danube-Black Sea multimodal platform.
Minister Papazov stated that the next programming period envisages the implementation of a series of projects, which are to establish better connections between the ports and other modes of transport. The modernization of the railway line Rousse – Varna will allow the establishment of an intermodal logistic chain “sea-rail-river”, connecting the Black Sea to the river Danube, he added. Another important railway line is Plovdiv – Bourgas, which is currently being rehabilitated. Minister Papazov pointed out that the connectivity of the two Black Sea ports to the railway transport will be improved through the implementation of the project “Modernization of the railway line Karnobat – Sindel (partial)”.
The results of this project will be of benefit to all the interested parties that deal with multimodal transportations in the region, and the conclusions and forecasts will be mirrored in new investement proposals for the promotion of multimodal transport.
ADB Multiplatform, with Executive Agency “Maritime Administration” being a partner, is an international project of regional importance, which is co-financed under South East Europe 2007 - 2013 Transnational Cooperation Programme. The project was launched in April 2012 with duration of 30 months. The leading partner is the administration of the region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy. A total of 43 partners participate in the project – 30 of which are EU member states and 13 are countries outside the EU. |
