e-Identification bill to be published for public consultation in March

26.02.2015

The draft Law on electronic identification will be published for public consultation in early March 2015, announced the Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Valery Borissov at the opening of a workshop on experience sharing between Bulgaria and the countries from the Visegrád Group on e-government. The working group on the drafting the statutory act has engaged significant efforts to create a contemporary bill that is based on the European regulation of 2014, added the Deputy Minister.

Valery Borissov recalled that two years ago the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications successfully implemented a pilot project for electronic identification. "Unfortunately the results were not made use of, and so far not a single administration changed their systems so as to allow access to its data and services with electronic identification", said Deputy Minister Borissov. In his words, the government is trying to catch up whit what has accumulated over the past year and a half. E-governance is not possible without means of digital identification for the citizens and the businesses, added the Deputy Minister.

Today's seminar was opened by the Deputy Prime Minister for Coalition Policy and Public Administration Rumiana Bachvarova. Experts from the executive government, as well as representatives of companies from Bulgaria, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic presented their experience in e-government.
