Deputy Minister Genovski: opening procurement data aids a business with 60 billion euro market share

Publishing procurement data allows for better control when utilizing public resources and provided new business opportunities, stated the Deputy minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, Dimitar Genovski, at the opening of the conference Superpowers of procurement data - Public procurement data for EU businesses and policies. The event took place in Brussels and was organized within the framework of the Bulgarian presidency of the Council of the EU.

Open data market in EU represents about 60 billion euro, as the share of transport, ICT and trade sectors amounts to over 16.6 billion euro, added the Deputy Minister. A large number of industries use data in their strategic planning, decision taking and evaluating business success. R&D sector relies heavily on data when improving their scientific results.

In his statement, Genovski pointed out that reliable and precise procurement data, both on national and European levels, boosts economy and cross-border trade. Open access to this type of information is an important prerequisite for the development of single market as well as the Union’s commercial relations with other countries and regions, concluded Deputy Minister Genovski.
