Deputy Minister Valery Borissov: Posts are a significant part of Digital Economy

Posts are a significant part of digital economy, not only as a participant in e-commerce, but also as places for access to electronic administrative services and the Internet,  said Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Valery Borissov to the participants in the Ministerial Conference, which is organized by the Universal Postal Union in Istanbul, Turkey. Deputy Minister Valery Borissov was a speaker in the session "Unlocking the Potential of the Post in a Digital Economy ".

"Today internet access is a service like the supply of electricity and water. So, in the digital strategy of Bulgaria we have indicated that we need to take advantage of the Posts as an institution to which people trust", said during the forum the Bulgarian Deputy Minister. In his words, post offices in the small towns may serve as centers for free wireless Internet, for use of e-mails, phone calls and more.

Deputy Minister Borissov said that in the e-government Action Plan for the period 2016 - 2020, the post offices are defined as access points to e-government services. The employees may help older people without digital skills to obtain services electronically, he added.

During the forum Deputy Minister Valery Borissov met with the Director General of the Universal Postal Union Bishar Hussein. The Bulgarian Deputy Minister also had talks with the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications of Bangladesh Tarana Halim. Valery Borissov discussed with the Minister of Postal Services and Telecommunications of the Republic of South Africa Siyabonga Cwele the construction of broadband infrastructure between post offices.
