Deputy Minister Velik Zanchev: By the end of August a new ship will be delivered for marking the Danube shipping route

By the end of August the new marker ship will be delivered to mark the Danube River shipping route. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications Velik Zanchev at the Ministerial Conference of the Member States of the Danube Commission. The event was held today in Belgrade on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Convention on the Navigation of the Danube River.

Deputy Minister Zanchev noted that this is the second vessel to be delivered to the EA "Study and Maintenance of the Danube River" under the FAIRway Danube project, funded by the Connecting Europe Facility. "With the new, more modern equipment, we will collect more information about the critical stretches, the water levels and make more accurate forecasts for the Bulgarian-Romanian part of the river. Within the framework of the project, 9 automatic stations will be delivered, which will measure the water levels in the thresholds of the river, "Velik Zanchev added.

The Deputy Minister informed his colleagues about the projects for improving the conditions for navigation in the Bulgarian section of the river. "They cover both activities related to the provision of exploration craft, marking of the waterway, dredging equipment, as well as a harmonized approach to providing information and forecasts, improving water management, sediment and morphology of the Danube River" , Zhanchev stressed. "Our goal is to achieve better navigation conditions, reduce the risks of floods and, last but not least, increase the quality of the services," said the Deputy Minister.
