Bulgaria has the potential to develop high-product calculations as applications in the field of medicine and genetics, which will generate benefits to the countries in the region, said the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Rossen Jeliazkov during the Informal Meeting of the EU Telecommunication Minsters in Bucharest, Romania. The Digital strategy beyond 2020 was discussed within the forum.

Minister Jeliazkov pointed out as a major challenge the need of urgent measures to improve digital skills and the inclusion of the preparation to work with AI into curricula and vocational training at all levels. According to him, the support of small and medium-sized enterprises to adopt and use new technology of AI is another direction at which efforts should be aimed. “The main ambition after that will be to improve the level of digitalization of these companies in order to increase their competitiveness and guarantee that no country lags behind”, underlined the Minister.

Rossen Jeliazkov said that the 5G technology and AI are a dynamic area, which sets serious challenges to security of digital space and in this sphere concerted efforts and enhanced cooperation between member states are needed. The EU should strive not to be a world pioneer in the deployment of new technology, but rather focus on what is Europe’s strong side in comparison to the other continents as higher quality of services and coverage, added the Bulgarian Minister.
