Minister Rossen Jeliazkov: We seek consensus with the local authorities, the public, the trade unions and the emploees regarding the development of port Varna

The development of Varna-West as a container and ferry terminal infrastructure and of Varna-East as a zone for public access and cruise should be planned in good coordination, said the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Rossen Jeliazkov during a working visit to Varna.

He recalled that the Master Plan of Port Varna is considered by the Intergovernmental Council. Minister Jeliazkov was definite that the decision should be taken in full interaction with the local authorities, the citizens, the trade unions and the employees of the port. "A major project on the deepening of the Varna-West channels is underway, which will improve its development potential as a container and ferry terminal and also to the increase of the volume of bulk cargo. This is a big investment set in the state budget", reminded the Minister. He added that, on the other hand, the eastern part of Varna-East is developing as a zone for public access, recreation, cruise tourism and marina.

During his visit, Minister Jeliazkov made an inspection of the facilities put into operation at the Bulgarian Maritime Qualification Center. "Up to now, 1 million BGN have been invested in training equipment and other 1 million BGN is to be invested," said Minister Jeliazkov. According to him, an average of 3000 seafarers from Bulgaria and abroad are trained in the center.
