The opening of the World Cup is marked by a post-philatelic edition

The Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, Dimitar Genovsky, launched the thematic post-philatelic edition on the day of the official opening of the World Football Championship - Russia 2018.

One of the first postage stamps on football was published in Bulgaria in 1931 in the series "First Balkaniad", the Deputy Minister said during the ceremony. He recalled that in 1962, a postage stamp for the World Cup in Chile was printed, when it was the first Bulgarian participation in the world finals. In the words of Dimitar Genovsky, for the Bulgarian collectors the most valuable are the brands and blocks for those world championships where our national team is present at the finals. An example is the "Bulgaria with bronze medal" philatelic block for our presentation at the World Cup in the USA in the summer of 1994.

The edition of "World Cup of Football - Russia 2018" is a series of two postage stamps with nominal values of 1.00 leva and 2.00 leva. The artist is Prof. Plamen Valchev.
