OPTTI to modernize three key railway stations

Three key railway stations will be modernized with funds under Transport and Transport Infrastructure 2014-2020 Operational Program (OPTTI). The project for reconstruction of the stations Poduyane, Iskar and Kazitchene was approved at the total amount of 7.4 million leva, 6.6 million of them being grants.

The waiting areas and adjacent platforms will be refurbished, the construction state of buildings will be improved, energy efficiency systems, as well as modern information and announcement equipment, will be deployed, and green areas will be rehabilitated.

To preserve the authenticity of Sofia’s second largest station – Poduyane, the building itself, as well as the pavilion, are to be reconstructed.

There is an ongoing tender with three lots for the three corresponding stations. National Railway Infrastructure Company is the contracting authority, and the deadline for placing bids is August 23, 2018. Construction works on the three sites are to begin at the beginning of next year and end in 2020.

The railway stations Poduyane, Iskar and Kazitchene are part of Sofia-Plovdiv railway line, which is the busiest one, with over 1.4 million passengers having travelled the line last year.
