Universal Postal Union (UPU)

The Universal Postal Union was established in 1874, and since 1948 it has the status of international organization for postal services in the UN system. According to the UPU Constitution, an UPU member can be any member of the UN and at present the UPU has 192 Member States.

Bulgaria has been a member of the UPU since 1879 and is one of the first countries in the world to join this international organization, only 5 years after its creation.
The Congress is the supreme governing body of the UPU. It is attended by authorised representatives of the Member States. The two governing bodies of the UPU in the period between two Congresses are: the Council of Administration (CA) and the Postal Operations Council (POC).

The Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications represents the Republic of Bulgaria in the UPU.

Bulgaria is a member of the Council of Administration of the UPU.
