The first international symposium on 5G, organized under the EC COMPACT project within the Horizon 2020 Framework Program, will be held on 14 May 2020. Registration for the event is free and allows you to communicate directly with participants and speakers in real time.

Road transport

The thirty-sixth Bulgarian municipalities that have not participated in the WiFi4EU initiative so far can apply for a new competition. It will be launch on March 17, 2020 at 2 pm Bulgarian time, as the local authorities have to register on the WiFi4EU portal beforehand.

With a budget of EUR 14.2 million, the European Commission will distribute 947 vouchers on the “first-applicant-first-funded” bases, following the geographical balance. There will be no maximum number of vouchers for each participating country for this fourth competition.

Bulgaria is hosting for the fourth time the Regional Cybersecurity Forum for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States, organized by the International Telecommunications Union.

This is a  recognition of our country's role both in the activities of the international institution and in regional cybersecurity, said Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Andreana Atanasova at the opening of the event.

Sixth generation mobile networks can  be expected to be developed in 10 years. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Andreana Atanasova, who, as Vice-Chair of the European Radio Spectrum Policy Group, participated in the 20th European Conference on 5G in Brussels.

The Expert Public Council on Internet Governance and ICT has resumed its work. "With the first meeting of the Board of Trustees, the relationship between the administration and the participants in the Internet society has been re-established," Andreana Atanasova, Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, said during the meeting. The Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications (MTITC) is a strategic partner in a technology and financial support initiative for startup companies that develop artificial intelligence based applications. European Union’s Member States, including Bulgaria are working on a coordinated security mechanism for 5G networks. This was stated by the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Rossen Jeliazkov during the Cybersecurity Summit in Berlin. He added that in December the Council of the European Union is going to approve conclusions on the importance of the fifth-generation networks and security aspects.

Additional bandwidths for the development of fifth generation (5G) mobile networks were identified during the World Radiocommunication Conference. The Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Rossen Jeliazkov participated in the final sessions and the signing of the final documents on behalf of Bulgaria. The Forum is organized by the International Telecommunication Union and sets out the directions for the development of radio communications and radio spectrum management worldwide. This year's event took place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.

Cybersecurity is one of the most important issues in both defense and civil life. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Andreana Atanasova at the opening of the Sofia Chapter Annual Conference AFCEA on Industry and HiTech for Defense and National Security.  In her words, the entry of high technology is important, but it can be both an advantage and a danger.

In 2020, there will be “smart” cities in Bulgaria with fifth generation mobile networks. Representatives of the management of the Communications Regulation Commission, the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, the Ministry of Health, telecom operators and experts participated in the forum.

Geographic information systems are a tool for making responsible, important policy decisions at the state and local level. "I cannot imagine road, rail, maritime and river infrastructure without modern geographical data based applications," he said.

Fifth generation 5G mobile networking services are the basis of smart cities, where technologies are implemented for the benefit of residents, of environmentally friendly and sustainable solutions. "5G operates at 100 times the speed, at least 1 million devices per square kilometer can be connected, there is almost no delay in data transmission speed," the minister said during a presentation organized by Vivacom.

The state recommends the logistics sector with the construction of modern transport infrastructure and the development of fifth generation mobile networks. Of the 45 Bulgarian municipalities that applied for the third WiFi4EU competition, 41 municipalities received 615,000 euros in funding. This was made clear by the results announced today by the European Commission.

Insufficient IT staffing capacity is one of the most common challenges to guaranteeing cybersecurity, according to 64 percent of those surveyed. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Andreana Atanasova at a roundtable on Information Security Issues. Next, 48 percent of organizations say cybersecurity is not sufficient, and 45 percent say there are some gaps in the regulatory framework and the practice of outsourcing IT services, in some cases leading to poor quality.

Big data has huge potential to provide competitive advantages for companies in all sectors of the economy as well as to develop new quality services in the public sectors. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Andreana Atanasova during a conference on the role of data and new technologies in the future of organizations. She emphasized that the rapid development of the economy is based on new products and services based on data, artificial intelligence, autonomous systems and 5G.

The implementation of 5G networks will increase the range of services in all sectors of society. He was adamant that this would have a significant impact on both business and the social field.
