Deputy Minister Anna Natova: Burgas region has the potential to be an economic hub on the Balkans

The Burgas region has the potential to be an economic hub on the Balkans. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Anna Natova at the opening of the third edition of the National Forum on Air Transport Connectivity and New Opportunities for Tourism and Partnerships in the Black Sea Region and Southeast Bulgaria.

The city is one of the most attractive for transport, tourism and business ventures due to its proximity to the Black Sea, which is the ‘sea gate’ of Bulgaria, and because the new airport in Istanbul shifts the balance of air traffic in Europe to the East, the deputy minister explained.

According to her, Burgas unites all transport aspects — the presence of good port infrastructure for shipping, an international airport with the possibility of servicing all types of aircraft, rail connectivity with the capital and very well-developed highway arteries with Asia.

The Bulgarian side is looking for opportunities to increase flights to international airports in the country, Anna Natova was adamant. The Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Directorate General Civil Aviation Administration are in talks to sign memoranda of cooperation in air transport with countries from different continents.
