Deputy Minister Georgi Todorov: The innovations are closely related to the protection of intellectual property

The success of the technological companies depends on the innovations, and they are closely related to the protection of the intellectual property. That stated the Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, Georgi Todorov in the discussion, dedicated to the World day of intellectual property – 26 April.

“There are 10 000 companies in our country that work in the sphere of information technology and communications. They annually create and realize production of over 8 billion BGN.“, said also the Deputy Minister. He added that in the recent 5 years there have been registered 13 patents and 102 useful models in the sphere of the information technology. There have been 55 applications of Bulgarians for a patent of their innovations on the territory of other countries.

According to Deputy Minister Georgi Todorov, the prevailing part of the production of IT companies are software products, and they are difficult to protect. „By using the new technologies, the attempts and possibilities for unregulated acquisition of intellectual property increase. It is rather evident in the technological sector, where the protection of information security is a main issue”, stated Deputy Minister Todorov. He added that the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications makes great efforts to increase the information security and protection of the information arrays in the state administration, and to create means of protected communication.
