Georgi Asparuhov is the Bulgarian football player for whom the highest number of postage stamps in Bulgaria has been issued

In Bulgarian philately has long been a column of sport glory and one of the most revered people there is the sports legend Georgi Asparuhov. This was stated by Krasimira Stoyanova, Director of the Legal Directorate at the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, during the validation of a post-philatelic edition for the 75th anniversary of the Bulgarian footballer's birth. The seal for putting the edition into use was also put by Krasimir Ivanov, the Executive director of the Football Club "Levski".

Just two years after the death of Georgi Asparuhov, an issue with his face appeared on the philatelic market. Later, three more postage stamps are dedicated to one of the most beloved Bulgarian footballers. The latest postage stamp in a block depicts Georgi Asparuhov in action - on the football field. The artist Emilian Stankev has depicted one of the most famous pictures of the sport legend in an artistic miniature.

"The postage stamp that we validate today is a kind gift from the generations in honor of the personality of one of the most popular Bulgarian players," Krasimira Stoyanova said. In her opinion, today's event is another reason to recall the merits of Georgi Asparuhov to strengthen our self-esteem as a sports nation. "His life and career inspired thousands of young Bulgarians to take on the path of fair play not only in sports but also in any other venture," she added.

The postage stamp in a block has a nominal value of BGN 2 and is printed in a circulation of 10 100 pieces.
