Maritime Administration Executive Agency took part in a disaster preparedness exercise

The Maritime Administration Executive Agency participated in a two-day disaster preparedness exercise, which was held on May 18 and 19, 2021 in Belene.

The teams of the Maritime Administration Executive Agency and the Fire Safety and Protection of the Population Regional Directorate - Pleven conducted an operation to localize and eliminate oil spill pollution along the Danube River. Actions were carried out to detect the pollution with a drone, to enclose the place with containment booms, to treat it with specialized environmentally-friendly detergents and to pump out the contaminated layer.

During the exercise, the staff played out different situations, checking the interaction and coordination between the different institutions, as well as the response to disasters.

After the end of the demonstrations, an analysis of the exercise was made, and the overall performance of the participants was positively assessed by the Crisis Management and Disaster Response Centre of Excellence (CMDR COE) of NATO.

The event was organized by the Municipality of Belene on the topic: "Activity of the headquarters for implementation of the municipal plan for disaster preparedness, management bodies and forces of the Unified Rescue System for rescue and emergency recovery work in case of flood and strong earthquake “. The main goal of the exercise is to check the readiness of the institutions to perform coordinated actions in emergency situations. Representatives of various institutions took part: Maritime Administration Executive Agency, District Administration - Pleven, Fire Safety and Protection of the Population Regional Directorate - Pleven, Military Police Service, Crisis Management and Disaster Response Centre of Excellence (CMDR COE) of NATO, 55th Engineer Regiment - Belene, MHAT - Belene, Regional Center 112 - Montana, BRC - Pleven and CEZ.
