22.07.2019

5G technology is a revolution for the economy, industry, society and people. This was stated by the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Rossen Jeliazkov during the first call via 5G mobile network in Bulgaria. The demonstration was part of the series of 5G practice tests carried out by Telenor Telecommunication Company.

Minister Jeliazkov emphasized that the fifth-generation technology will be the accelerator that will really change our societies. "The state has three things to do to pursue its targeted policy - spectrum management; tariff-related incentives for reduction the cost to the final consumer and administrative burden reduction," said the minister. In his words, the new 5G network deployment is related to extremely large investment, spatial planning and administrative work. "This triad of the state and regulator policy should be extremely harmonious in the near future," Rossen Jeliazkov said. He said that the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications and the Communications Regulation Commission are aware of the importance of this approach. "We have a very fruitful dialogue with the telecom operators, for which I thank - not only for the demonstrations, but for the courage to invest together with the big European telecoms at that moment, in this initiative and in this adventure," he added.

On behalf of the telecommunication industry, Telenor CEO Jason King extended his special thanks to Minister Jeliazkov for the fruitful dialogue on efficient spectrum management and price revisions for providing frequencies. Jason King added that the industry needs spectrum availability, acceptable prices and substantial liberalization of the regulations.
