MTC and JASPERS start work on the update of the National Transport Model

The Ministry of Transport and Communications, with the support of the JASPERS initiative, has started activities related to the update of the national transport model and the preparation of a methodology for project prioritisation. This became clear during a meeting held today at the Ministry. Participants in the discussion of activities related to the update of the transport model included the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Biser Minchev, the Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Eng. Nikolay Naydenov, representatives of the JASPERS initiative and experts from relevant institutions.

During the discussion, Deputy Minister Biser Minchev stressed that the transport model was developed as part of the Integrated Transport Strategy in the period up to 2030. It covers passenger and freight transport and is applicable to individual modes of transport within the country as well as to international and transit transport.

‘At the moment there are changes in traffic due to the complex geopolitical situation. An update of the transport model is therefore necessary. This implies updating the statistical data and updating the information on the infrastructure projects that are being implemented or are about to be launched so that they meet the new challenges facing the transport sector,’ Biser Minchev said.

The Deputy Minister added that the upgrading of the model will be carried out with the assistance of JASPERS, with which the MTC has a long-standing cooperation.
