Procedures for awarding public contracts for new trains have been opened

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Hristo Alexiev signed the documentation for awarding public contracts for the supply of new rolling stock.

The investment is financed with European funds under the Recovery and Resilience Plan and with budget funds. Until the present moment, public procurements for rolling stock of a similar scale have not been prepared in Bulgaria.

The procurement procedures encompass 7 double-deck locomotives, 35 single-deck locomotives, 20 push-pull and 18 shunting locomotives. In addition to delivery, the estimated values include 15 years of full maintenance to guarantee high quality, accident-free and continuity of passenger service, as well as staff training.

The new rolling stock will significantly improve the mobility of the population by transferring the journeys from individual to rail transport and will allow provision of a modern, safe and comfortable service for passengers in more than 50% of the destinations in the country.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications will be owner of the rolling stock. The user of the trains will be the contractor under the next contract for the performance of public transport services by rail. The way to provide the trains will be carried out in accordance with the European and national legislation.

The documents for the orders are published on the profile of the buyer of MTC in Centralized automated information system "Electronic public procurement" – https://app.eop.bg/buyer/5592, as well as on the website of the official journal of the EU - https://ted.europa.eu/TED /browse/browseByMap.do.
