Transport projects contribute to both connectivity and security in the region

The strategic North-South and East-West connectivity was discussed today at a meeting of the Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Gvozdeykov with the US Ambassador in Sofia H. E. Mr Kenneth Merten. Bulgaria's efforts to develop transport links with neighbouring countries contribute to both economic development and security in the whole region, was the common opinion.

The Bulgarian side is making significant efforts to build Corridor VIII, Minister Gvozdeykov said.  This project is key to the region's connectivity and economic prosperity.  The route represents a very important link along the East-West axis, connecting Bulgaria, the Republic of North Macedonia, Albania and Italy, it was emphasized during the talks.

Bulgaria and Greece continue their joint work on the implementation of the Sea2Sea multimodal corridor. The project will provide a rail link between the Greek ports on the Aegean, the Bulgarian ports on the Black Sea and the Danube. The implementation of the corridor is important in terms of developing North-South connectivity, especially in the current dynamic international environment.
