The Forum of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) will celebrate its 10th anniversary from 8 to 12 April 2019 under the slogan "Information and Communication Technologies for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals". WSIS continues to provide a platform for a "fair and equitable information society" for all stakeholders in accordance with the Geneva Action Plan.

All stakeholders are urged to encourage their networks to join the WSIS Prizes process, including the multistakeholder open consultation process for the WSIS Forum 2018, in order to ensure that all features correspond to the real needs of the WSIS implementation process towards 2025. Phase one will open the call for submissions to the contest of the WSIS Prize 2018. Starting from 11 September 2017 until 2 January 2018, all stakeholders are invited to submit WSIS related projects to the WSIS Prize 2018 contest. In order to process the submission, stakeholders are requested to complete the submission form for WSIS Prize 2018 online here.

The contest launched on 11 September 2017 and will collect photos until 9 February 2018. The three winning entries in the WSIS photo contest will be awarded and presented at the WSIS Forum 2018 19-23 March 2018 in Geneva, Switzerland.

The call to include new initiatives for 2016 to 2017 has launched.  The MTITC invites its socio-economic partners to send their initiatives in the field of Information Society by 1 March 2017. They will be reflected in the WSIS Stocktaking report 2017 and presented during the WSIS Forum 2017.

A project by the Southwestern University "Neophyte Rilski" - Blagoevgrad was awarded a prestigious prize in the "Cultural diversity, identity and linguistic diversity" at the WSIS Project Prizes awards 2015. Eighteen winners were announced by the Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) - Mr. Houlin Zhao.- on May 26, 2015 at the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) in Geneva.

WSIS Prizes is an international contest developed in response to requests from WSIS stakeholders to create an effective mechanism to evaluate and recognize individuals, governments, civil society, local, regional and international agencies, research institutions and private sector companies for outstanding success in implementing development-oriented strategies that leverage the power of ICTs. The WSIS Prizes contest is an integral part of the WSIS stocktaking process.

Within the framework of the ITU European Regional Initiative on Building Confidence and Security in the use of Telecommunications/ICTs, adopted by the World Telecommunication Development Conference 2014 (WTDC-14), Dubai, the Conference is co-organized by the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Polish and German Safer Internet Centres, which have been working together within the European Commission’s Safer Internet Program.
